A facial mist is a wonderful product for summer when your skin craves refreshment, hydration, and skincare benefits. Facial mists can sometimes feel like an unnecessary extra step, but they truly are not. Essences may have captured more attention lately, but a high-quality, carefully selected facial mist is at least as effective and versatile as a skincare product.
WHEN SHOULD YOU USE A FACIAL MIST?
Facial mists complete the cleansing process and restore the skin’s proper pH balance after cleansing. If you want to literally finish your cleanse with a toner, apply it to a cotton pad and wipe your face. If you already cleanse thoroughly with other products and want to benefit fully from all the skincare properties of your toner, spray the mist directly onto your face after cleansing and gently press it into the skin with your hands. This allows every drop to absorb properly. In my own skincare routine, I use the latter method, while in facial treatments I use both approaches.
A facial mist begins the hydration process after cleansing and helps the active ingredients in your other skincare products absorb more effectively. The skin is more receptive to serums, creams, and oils when the surface is slightly damp and softened by a facial mist. Facial mists are also wonderfully refreshing throughout the day and make an excellent addition to skincare during hot summer weather.
Here are nine of my favorite facial mists for hydrating, brightening, firming, and caring for the skin.
YIN YOUR SKIN SUMU TRANSFORMATIVE FACIAL MIST *
Wonderfully refreshing SUMU lives up to its name by dispersing across the skin as an incredibly fine, even cloud. The scent comes from ingredients such as green tea, orange blossom, and jasmine. The overall experience feels especially luxurious. I notice a clear improvement in both hydration levels and skin tone when using SUMU. The mist deeply hydrates, balances, and brightens all skin types. It is also excellent for sensitive skin.
A few ingredients worth highlighting include hibiscus flower extract and blueberry extract, both powerful antioxidants that protect and renew the skin. Hibiscus helps brighten and firm the complexion. It has the ability to plump the skin and improve firmness, making the skin feel noticeably more resilient. The lotus flower extract in the mist stimulates microcirculation, helping to brighten the complexion. Blueberry extract is rich in vitamin C, which offers numerous benefits to the skin, including improved radiance. Ginkgo biloba extract is another versatile ingredient that helps calm and balance the skin. SUMU is truly a multi-functional facial mist that supports the skin in many ways.

LILFOX BITTER ORANGE NEROLI TONING MIST *
Lilfox’s orange blossom facial mist has an intoxicating scent and feels perfect for summer simply because of the atmosphere its fragrance creates. Its skincare benefits are equally impressive, as the mist visibly hydrates and brightens the skin while delivering a refreshing cloud of moisture. Lilfox’s mist is ideal if you are looking for a balancing and soothing spray. Consistent use leaves the skin softer, smoother, and plumper. Reach for this bottle especially if your skin is sensitive, reactive, or prone to dryness.
The neroli hydrosol in Lilfox’s mist is produced from fresh, hand-picked neroli blossoms. The distillation process takes place at a low temperature, preserving both the active compounds and the full fragrance profile of the flowers. CATARINA BARBOSA EUNICE REVITALIZING FLORAL ESSENCE *
This facial mist from Portuguese brand Catarina Barbosa feels like a truly refreshing breeze on the skin. My skin always feels deeply hydrated and noticeably firmer after using it. Like the Lilfox mist, Eunice also contains neroli, so my recent toner choices have clearly followed a theme. The scent of this mist is pleasantly tart and wonderfully refreshing.
Eunice contains bamboo extract to help soften the appearance of fine lines, Centella asiatica to stimulate collagen production, and panthenol to improve hydration and firmness. Hexapeptide-11 enhances the skin’s ability to retain moisture while firming and strengthening it. The mist also contains hyaluronic acid, which helps plump fine lines and bind moisture to the skin, improving firmness. Cactus water and rose water hydrate the skin and support optimal moisture balance.
Eunice is suitable for all skin types and is particularly beneficial for mature skin thanks to its many skincare benefits.
PAI SKINCARE CENTURY FLOWER SOOTHING TONIC
Pai’s facial mist delivers a beautifully even, broad, ultra-fine spray that won’t disturb makeup during the day. I love its soft, refreshing feel, which makes it ideal for frequent use throughout the day. The scent is gentle and subtle, as is typical of Pai’s products designed for sensitive skin.
Plant extracts derived from lotus and orange blossom roots support the skin’s natural pH and help strengthen the microbiome. Lotus flower water is rich in minerals and antioxidants that nourish, protect, and strengthen the skin. Neroli stimulates circulation, improves skin tone, and enhances radiance. The prebiotics in the formula help strengthen the skin barrier and support balance, while hyaluronic acid binds moisture, plumps the skin, and softens fine lines.

Esse’s facial mists were reformulated this spring, and this article features two of them. Biome Mist may already be familiar under its former name, Toner Plus, so fans will be happy to know it has not been discontinued. Biome Mist improves elasticity and firmness while helping to reduce inflammation and redness. It is an excellent choice if your skin experiences irritation, acne, redness, or other signs of imbalance. It is also well suited to mature, sensitive, and dry skin.
The mist contains postbiotics—non-living probiotic compounds derived from lactic acid bacteria—which help strengthen the skin barrier. A healthy microbiome is the foundation of healthy skin. The prebiotics in the formula nourish beneficial bacteria and help maintain balance. Low-grade inflammation is one of the key factors that accelerates visible signs of aging, so supporting the microbiome is an effective way to help prevent premature aging.
Biome Mist has Esse’s signature soft, slightly vanilla-like scent that is generally suitable even for sensitive noses and those who prefer minimal fragrance.
ESSE HYDRATING MIST *
Esse Hydrating Mist may be familiar to many under its former name, Toner. This intensely hydrating mist continues Esse’s philosophy of supporting a strong and balanced microbiome, while also incorporating ingredients that help combat environmental pollution and sun-related damage.
The rooibos extract in the formula is rich in antioxidants that protect and renew the skin while helping maintain a brighter complexion. Novexpert’s Perfect Glow Mist belongs to the brightening skincare line launched this spring, featuring targeted products designed to treat and prevent pigmentation concerns. The brightening benefits are based on polyphenols, particularly those found in green tea. The ingredients have been selected specifically to brighten the complexion and help prevent hyperpigmentation.
The green tea polyphenols in the mist are powerful antioxidants that protect the skin from free radicals and oxidative stress. The mist works beautifully on sensitive skin and effectively revitalizes dry skin. It stimulates and strengthens the skin. The spray itself is generous, soft, and beautifully even. The gentle mist also works wonderfully as a refreshing facial spray throughout the day.
The combination of witch hazel and anthyllis helps strengthen the skin, stimulate skin metabolism, and support renewal. Witch hazel refreshes, firms, and refines skin texture. It is also a soothing ingredient that helps reduce inflammation, irritation, and redness. Anthyllis strengthens the skin and supports its natural resilience. Together, these ingredients help the skin regulate its own moisture balance.
As with many Dr. Hauschka products, the scent is refreshingly fresh and mild.
LAPONIE BALANCING ESSENCE *
Laponie’s balancing facial mist is suitable for absolutely every skin type, including the most sensitive and reactive. It works beautifully even when there are no particular skin concerns, but it is especially valuable when your skin feels overwhelmed and needs a reset. If your skin is irritated, red, breakout-prone, reactive, or behaving unpredictably, reach for Laponie’s mist—and the rest of the range as well. Laponie’s products are also excellent for those dealing with perioral dermatitis.
